The Planet X, or Nibiru, is one of 2012’s more interesting theories. The Nibiru Collision is a supposed encounter between the Earth and a large planetary object (either a collision or a near-miss) which certain groups believe will take place in the early 21st century, and today they predict it will be on December 21, 2012 (though the collision date was actually moved from an earlier date). It is one of the most awe-inspiring scenarios that would occur on 2012 – a larger planet, very much larger than Earth itself, is supposedly heading our way and will inevitably crush the planet in pieces. What they even purport is that, Nibiru collisions already occurred thousands of years ago, and this supposedly explains the mass extinctions of dinosaurs, the ice age, the great deluge and so much more! But… Is the Nibiru theory real? Have scientists really discovered Planet X? Are we truly going to collide with this planet?

First it is important to know where the Nibiru theory came from. Nibiru is the brainchild of ancient astronaut proponent Zecharia Sitchin, who interpreted Babylonian religious texts which dated thousands of years ago. According to his findings, the Sumer people where observing, even without the apt technological capability, a giant planet that passes by the Earth every 3,600 years. This planet, called Nibiru, has sentient inhabitants who interacted with humanity, especially with the peoples of Asia and Central America. Zecharia proposed that this was the reason why the dawn of civilization started on equal footing between the people from separate continents, without even knowing that each existed.

However, the Nibiru / Planet X collision isn’t the idea of Zecharia. Nancy Lieder, founder of the website ZetaTalk, is the superstar of this theory, and I mean he really is the center of it all. He claims to be a contactee, a messenger of the extra-terrestrials, with the ability to receive messages from the inhabitants of star system Zeta Reticuli with a communications device implanted in her brain. She states that she was chosen to warn mankind that the object would sweep through the inner Solar System in May 2003 (though that date was later abandoned) causing Earth to undergo a pole shift that would destroy most of humanity. Today she maintains that the May 2003 predictions was a “white lie” to fool the establishment, and moved the arrival date of the planet on December 21, 2012. Therefore, it easily made its ranks to the Mayan calendar and Bible apocalypse theory, as well as the Earth Crust Displacement Theory which has been the subject of a recent movie regarding the end of days, “2012”.

Modern astronomers, however, found no proof of this planet Nibiru despite efforts to find it for many years now, and they have finally concluded that Nibiru does not exist. Some counter this by claiming that the object has been hiding behind the Sun for several years, though such a claim is geometrically impossible. There is also a claim by Nancy Lieder that Nibiru is the cause of the gravitational disturbance between Uranus and Neptune, though this has already been debunked because the disturbance was simply caused by a slight miscalculation of Uranus’ mass.

Many believers in the imminent approach of Planet X / Nibiru accuse NASA of deliberately covering up visual evidence of its existence. NASA doesn’t give a statement against such a claim, but worriers are already alarmed by the growing clamor about the unknown planet.
