The Mayan astrology of 2012 is not simply a date of prophecies and foretold disasters. For some of us, it is a significant date of stellar alignments. For Mayans the perfection of the planetary movements towards a degree zero on December 21, 2012 could be the most astonishing event in the history of astrology. But, do they also believe that the astrology of December 21, 2012 is an omen of human destruction?

Astrology has lots to do with December 21, 2012. The Mayan Calendar, indeed, is a form of astrology, albeit not the “modern” one we are used to seeing today.  Those who are following the movements of the stars in reference to the planets, the modern astrologists, have described, somewhat entertainingly, what is actually going to happen in the skies of December 21, 2012, and what it means to them.

According to expert astrologists, there are three kinds of scenarios that might occur in December 21, 2012: ascension or destruction, or invariably nothing at all. Of course, the first two require the co-occurrence of a major global event. Ascension might mean the absolute “changing” of beliefs, cultures, and governments all over the world because finally, humanity realizes the faults of the system; how human activity is simply at odds with the way of nature. Destruction, on the other hand, is simply the wiping out of the human race – a no-brainer consequence for what humanity has done to Earth for thousands of years.

So, how do they determine this? Of course, they do what comes naturally to them: they examine the skies and the stars. Here the astrological analysis of December 21, 2012 will be discussed, as also will be their implications.

To the layman’s understanding, the placement of the stars on December 21, 2012 at 11.12 GMT will look like this: the galactic equator cuts the ecliptic at 0 degree of the Western zodiacal sign Capricorn. Turns out, 0 Degree Capricorn is where the sun will be during the December solstice, which is on December 21. When the Sun touches the Galactic Center, it will also touch the Dark Rift. According to the Mayas the Dark Rift is a cosmic womb: the place of dead, transformation, regeneration and rebirth. This is where the Mayan Calendar ends.

The Sun in its 0 Degree Capricorn position, makes an entire 60 Degrees, or a sextile, to Neptune, which points towards a spiritual experience, a loss, or both. Speaking of Neptune, the planetary chart of December 21, 2012 indicates a yod, which looks like a finger or an arrow. This is also called the “Finger of God”. The yod consists of three aspects: the planet Pluto is 150 degrees away from Jupiter, Jupiter also 150 degrees away from Saturn, and Jupiter at a central opposition (180 degree aspect) with the Mercury-Venus Conjunction. Analyzing it fully would take expertise, so astrologists summarize it as a sort of an arrow, a symbol of change, transformation, and rebirth. It is told in the meaning of the central planets participating in the yod.

First, Pluto is the planet of radical transformation, death and rebirth. Saturn is the planet of learning experiences of a more painful nature. Jupiter, the most important planet in the yod, emphasizes expansion. As a whole, the yod indicates a transformation process, a sort of expansion, which could be deadly and painful for most of us. Jupiter, being the focal point of energy of the yod, finally indicates a radical change in our religious systems, beliefs, and philosophical systems.

However, despite all of this, and seeing that it is stronger evidence that something is really going to occur, do the astrologists themselves believe in a global event of destruction occurring? Luckily, they DO NOT. Why? Simply because there have been powerful astrological moments in the past, ones as powerful as the December 21, 2012 moment, that had a subtle effect only. For example, an eclipse also predicted by Nostradamus, the Nostradamus Eclipse of 1999, was as hyped as December 2012 is. It convinced people that the world was going to end in 2000. However, no event of real and global significance happened after it.

What might strongly happen, according to Mayan astrology, is a radical change of society. An ascension to higher reality is what might hopefully take place. The belief system of the world will finally be scrapped for its mistakes and replaced with a greater consciousness: a society that truly brings peace and welfare not only for humanity, but for the planet as well.

The chance that nothing will happen, however, constitutes the greater percentage, and humankind will simply muddle through and go on with life like they did before. Mayan astrology of 2012 is a complex enigma – feel free to view more articles or browse more 2012 resources.
